Keep Your Cool
Know your limits. Accept what you can't change and let go of things out of your control. Ease your tension. Take a walk; listen to music, splash cold water on your face. Earn small rewards when you make the choice not to become angry. Phone a friend. It helps to share your concerns and talk things out. Your example helps your children learn to handle anger. Be a good role model. Object to the behavior if necessary, but separate the "deed from the doer." Use your kitchen timer for "time out" before disciplining. Remember that everyone makes mistakes, including you and your children. Count your breaths. Breathe in deep while counting to four. Breathe out while counting to four. Do four times. Old tapes in your head may be making your reaction more than it should be. Are you angry because of issues in your childhood? Out of ideas to handle anger? Consider parenting classes or professional counseling. Look objectively at the situation. Are you making a mountain out of a molehill? Is it really worth having a heart attack or stroke? This too shall pass. Controlling angry feelings is a skill that children learn from the people who care for them. There are activities which support our development of self-control. Count to twenty, backwards! We all need to find helpful ways to intervene when anger and frustration overwhelms us or our children. ŠJudy H. Anchoring Positivity With NLP There was some sunshine this weekend while I was writing this! At least here on the sunny south coast of England there was. I went out walking along the sea front with my partner Sara on Saturday morning and it was wonderful; the feeling of sunshine on my face, the smell of the air, the sites of other people out and about and happy, the local land train was shuttling people and their excited children back and forth from Bournemouth pier to Boscombe Pier and my senses were filled ? a major event for human neurophysiology (mine anyway!) Mom says, "No, Charlie - don't touch that!" Or a teacher says, "Jackie, that's not the way to do it!" All those "Nos" and "shouldn'ts" add up to a predisposition toward self-criticism that we must look at before we can truly change our lives. Rebuild Those Plans Byron and I started our first business full of enthusiasm and energy. The business was a seminar business with a focus on self-development. We loved the concept of helping others be more and achieve more. The business fit our backgrounds and we truly loved it. Shifting Your Paradigm What is a paradigm? In my own words, a paradigm is a belief system. It can be a personal belief system, or one held by a mass number of people, or even the whole world. Such a belief system is so entrenched in our minds as truth that it usually does not occur to us to question it. Therefore, many of us never even think that maybe this thought pattern needs updating. But, inevitably there are those that go against the common thought, and begin to challenge long held beliefs. More and more people begin to awaken, each individual begins to change their personal belief system, and the phenomenon that occurs as this old belief system comes tumbling down is often referred to as a paradigm shift. Beginners Programming 101 Recently a great idea popped into my head about creating a software program. Now, if the truth be told, I know absolutely nothing about computer programming. But the thought of creating this software was very persistent, so I went to the book store and purchased a few books for beginning programming. What?!? No Bananas? "Where are your bananas?" It seemed like a logical question to ask. For all of my forty trips around the sun, bananas were a key item to place in the grocery cart. For the first time I could recall, the banana bin was empty. So I asked a store worker where the bananas were. Why Should You Forgive? When I teach private Yoga sessions, sometimes, I become aware that a client has issues that cause anxiety, depression, and a negative outlook on life. This often causes difficulty for the student when trying to practice a stage-by-stage relaxation, and especially during meditation sessions.
